Within Class One, we pride ourselves on creating a safe and nurturing environment, where children can be helped to reach their full academic, social and emotional potentials. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, which focuses on seven areas of learning. This therefore enables us to offer a curriculum which is bespoke to each child as we can follow their individual interests and also we can go at the pace of each child.
Class One is a mixed class with nursery and reception children. The children are able to join at the start of the term that they are three and we offer flexible half day and whole day sessions to suit the needs of each child. The reception children have the opportunity to join in with the rest of the school during break times and lunchtimes as a way to ensure a gradual transition into Class Two. The nursery children stay within the nursery environment with familiar adults during these times.
We are very fortunate within Class One that we have recently had a new building, which is bespoke to the needs of the children within the Foundation Stage. We have access to outdoor play at all times either on our covered veranda or in our enclosed playground area. We also have access to an outdoor learning area, where the children are encouraged to explore their natural surroundings. The children within Class One are encouraged to take part in some adult led activities, for example a small focused maths or phonics activity and they are also responsible for their own learning during child – initiated time. The adults within the setting are able to encourage each child to develop their learning through careful support and encouragement during these times.
The children within Class One are tracked using an online learning journey called Tapestry. This enables you as parents to be able to see all the wonderful activities that they have been exploring within the classroom. It also enables you to post observations, so we can see some of the lovely activities that you have enjoyed at home and this can also enable us to discover some of the activities that your child enjoys. The children within the nursery also have a daily home school link book so you are able to have regular communication and updates about your child’s learning.
