CURRICULUM POLICIES

Welcome to Class 2!
In class 2, we are committed to supporting the development of children’s independence and confidence, both academically and personally, as they transition from the EYFS into Key Stage One. Through a structured approach to learning children continue to develop their early number sense and expand on their literacy skills. In class 2, we value story time to promote a love for reading. We often use stories as a ‘hook’ into learning activities to capture children’s imagination and curiosity, expand vocabulary and provide a meaningful context for learning.

In the afternoon’s class 2 engage in exciting topic-based learning. Here we can follow the children’s interests in practical and hands-on activities. Some of our favourite topics include ‘Heroes and Heroines’, ‘Amazing Animals’ and ‘The Great Outdoors’.

We hold high expectations of our children and they are always encouraged to reach their potential. We have heaps of fun, laughter and support each other to be the best that we can be. Children are offered a wealth of experiences such as Design and Technology, cooking and biking at the Stiperstones site, educational trips to different locations and a residential in year 2. These out of class experiences help the children to discover the world around them and develop important life skills.

Reading at home

Reading can be an enjoyable and magical experience for children, which opens the door to all kinds of new worlds. Reading everyday will hugely benefit your child as reading is viewed as the key to learning. We ask that your child spends time reading every night. Reading diaries come home daily where you can record any of your child’s reading. This doesn’t have to be their home reading book but any other reading that they complete at home. All children are also sent home with a ‘sharing story’ where they can enjoy listening to a story being read to them.

Spellings

All children are given spellings to learn weekly. These spellings are linked to their phonics learning. Please support your child in practicing these frequently in the red spelling book.

Water bottles

Children are welcome to bring in their own water bottle into class, this should be filled with water or weak squash only. It is important for children to keep hydrated throughout the day.
